Where to Go on a Trip – Jeruzalem Ormož

Are you wondering what you can do in the surroundings of Jeruzalem? Why are these places so special and worth a visit? In this blog, we will show you why Jeruzalem and its surroundings are a true paradise for lovers of nature, vineyards, and cultural heritage. Sibon is an excellent starting point for full-day trips around the region, offering everything from panoramic views, wine cellars, and castles, to lagoons and romantic corners.

If you are looking for breathtaking moments, the observation towers among the vineyards are the perfect choice. The most famous spot is Vinarium Lendava, the highest observation tower in Slovenia, boasting a height of 53.5 meters and a 360-degree panoramic view. From the tower, you will be able to see as many as four countries: Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia, and Austria. While admiring the vineyards and hills of the Lendavske Gorice, you can treat yourself to a coffee or a wine tasting at the nearby enoteca.

Tip: Have a four-legged friend with you? They are also welcome to enjoy the view from the tower.

If you would like to experience the vineyards from a slightly different perspective, head over to Mađerkin breg in neighboring Međimurje. The tower stands at 361 meters above sea level and offers breathtaking views of the surroundings. The name of the hill hides a romantic story: way back in 1940, Emilija Krauthaker, a famous Hungarian ballerina, moved here. After her husband’s death, she lived modestly, taking care of chickens and selling eggs in the nearby town of Štrigova. And although she lived a simple life, she thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of the nature that surrounded her. A visit to Mađerkin breg is thus also a journey through a story and a sense of the past.

Are you afraid of heights, or perhaps in need of some refreshment? Then you are better off visiting the water gems in the area. The Ormož Lagoons are a nature reserve and a paradise for bird watchers. The former pools of the Ormož Sugar Factory are today home to many migratory birds and nesting grounds for waterfowl. Throughout the year, you can see tens of thousands of birds here, including endangered species such as the little egret, the black-winged stilt, or the common redshank. During your walk, you might even spot an otter or water buffaloes.

For lovers of rivers and traditional culture, the perfect destination is Tinek’s Ferry (Tinekov brod) on the Mura River. The ferry connects the Prekmurje and Prlekija regions and takes you across the river, just as passengers, livestock, and cargo were transported in the old days. The story of the ferry dates back to 1931, when Martin Pozderec – Tinek – continued the family tradition of ferrying. Today, the ferry also transports cars, cyclists, and pedestrians. Hidden along the Mura River is also the Island of Love (Otok ljubezni) near Ižakovci, where lovers can exchange secret kisses, admire the floating mill, and enjoy the peace of nature. The island is a natural gem that combines romance, history, and cultural events—such as the Büjraši Days, where you can taste traditional dishes and experience what life by the river was like throughout history.

If you are seeking peaceful water spots, Lake Gajševci (Gajševsko jezero) is also fascinating. It is an artificial reservoir that has been popular among fishermen and nature lovers since 1973. A 4-kilometer gravel path runs along the lake, making it excellent for a walk or cycling. The lake is quite shallow and swimming is not recommended, but it still offers numerous opportunities for family outings or relaxing trips.

For those looking for sports and fun, Lake Sobota (Soboško jezero) and the Expano theme park offer as many as 35 different motor skill stations, SUP boarding, windsurfing, or simply sunbathing by the lake. The 65-hectare lake, with its 10-meter depth, beautifully combines nature and recreation. Along its shores, you will notice more than 50 species of birds and numerous fish to admire.

If you want to taste local delicacies while enjoying nature, head to Središče ob Dravi. The Jeruzalem SAT Oil Mill will pamper you with tastings of premium pumpkin seed oils and other local treats, while the Središče ob Dravi Landscape Park provides a pleasant walk among the trees, meadows, and riverbanks. Here you can combine pleasure for your taste buds and your eyes, enjoy a stroll and some exploration, and occasionally gaze into the tranquility of the surrounding nature, which will undoubtedly captivate you.

If you are craving a bit of a city vibe and cultural experiences, Ptuj is perfect for you. The old town center and the mighty Ptuj Castle with its museum collection will take you on a journey through history, while the cobblestone streets invite you to stop for a coffee or a dessert. During your walk, be sure not to miss the Orpheus Monument, the Minorite Monastery, or the Kurent House—every corner hides its own piece of Ptuj’s charm and provides wonderful photo opportunities.

Ormož also offers its own magic, where castles, history, and nature intertwine. Ormož Castle, the Castle Café, and the Church of St. James will take you back to a time when lords and craftsmen shaped life along the Drava River.

A visit to Jeruzalem and its surroundings is the perfect combination of nature, culture, and local stories. From vineyards and towers where you can capture the perfect panorama, to river gems and lagoons where time stands still, all the way to vibrant city streets and cultural monuments. Add a little curiosity, a camera, good company, and an open timeframe, and remember that the best moments are the ones you experience spontaneously while exploring and enjoying the region.

Prepare your comfortable shoes, your camera, and plenty of curiosity! Sibon and its surroundings are ready to reveal all their secrets to you.
