How to Spend a Perfect Sunny Day at Sibon Wine & Spa Resort and Jeruzalem

There are places you visit, and there are places you feel. Jeruzalem is one of those that remain deeply etched in your memory. Whether you visit in the spring, when the vines awaken and the hills glow in a fresh green color, or in the summer, when the sun casts long golden shadows among the vineyards and the evenings smell of ripe grapes, the place quickly finds a way into your heart.

If you are wondering how to spend a sunny day at Sibon and its surroundings, let us take you through an experience that combines pampering, nature, culinary delights, and authentic stories from the Prlekija region.

A Morning with the Taste of Prlekija

The day should start slowly. If you are early enough, treat yourself to a cup of coffee on our pool terrace and admire how the sun rises over the hills, illuminating the endless horizon of vineyards.

For those who enjoy a good, long sleep, start your day with our rich buffet breakfast. Local cheeses, homemade cold cuts, freshly baked pastries, seasonal fruit, and other Prlekija delicacies will fill you with energy for the new day.

Through the Vineyards by E-Bike or on Foot

When the sun has warmed the hills, it’s time to explore. The possibilities are endless. Are you more of a sporty type? Then rent an electric bike from us and explore the Jeruzalem Wine Road or the circular cycling trail. You can do the same on foot, discovering local flavors on your wanderings and tasting wines in the surrounding vineyard cottages (zidanice).

If you prefer adventurous experiences, you can also try our wine off-road, where we take you on an unforgettable jeep journey through the vineyards, complete with stunning views and food and drink tastings.

The Jeruzalem Wine Road is not only known for its premium wines but also as one of the most beautiful landscapes in Slovenia. A true fairytale backdrop is created by the soft rolling hills, scattered vineyard cottages, bell towers on the hilltops, and vineyards stretching all the way to the horizon.

The route begins in the village of Jeruzalem, right next to the pilgrimage Church of Our Lady of Sorrows. The church got its name from the tower where the image of Our Lady of Sorrows was placed. The painting is said to have been brought to these parts from Palestine (Jerusalem) by the Crusaders. The place Jeruzalem was also named after this event. The church was built in the mid-17th century and hides four altars, a precious pulpit with statues of angels and evangelists, and a side chapel that represents a unique cultural monument. If time permits, take a walk through the beautiful park surrounding the local Jeruzalem Mansion (Dvorec Jeruzalem).

The path then leads past our Sibon Wine & Spa hotel and past the 300-year-old Malek vineyard cottage. Near the cottage, there is also a hidden chapel and a small ethnological museum with an old wine press and a cellar where you can taste local wines produced along the route you have just driven or walked.

Along the way, you will also ride or walk past the breathtaking and charming small village of Svetinje. The entire route is about 8 kilometers long and will take you approximately two and a half hours.

Along the route, you will also find numerous makers of unique items, local craftsmen, tourist farms, and winemakers who preserve tradition while upgrading it with a modern approach.

Tip 1: Tailor the route to your wishes, but follow the hiking and tourist signs so you don’t get lost.

Alternatively, you can take the circular cycling trail, which is about 26 kilometers long. The path starts in Ormož, then gently ascends towards Jeruzalem and its terraced vineyards. It is marked with logo signs the entire way. You will complete around 270 meters of elevation gain in total, which is more than suitable for recreational cyclists looking for a relaxing trip and regional exploration.

Regardless of the path you choose, you will surely be impressed by the temperament of these places, shaped through a turbulent history and numerous influences from the east, west, north, and south. This blend of cultures, flavors, and stories gives the region a special character.

Tip 2: If you set out on the trail in late summer or autumn, the experience is even more special, as you can spot and hear the traditional klopotec (wooden wind rattles) guarding the grapes among the vineyards.

Afternoon Pampering by the Pool

After an active morning, treat yourself to some relaxation on our terrace with an infinity pool, comfortable loungers, and a glass of wine. In the shade of the grapevines, overlooking the rolling hills, your thoughts soften and time flows more slowly.

Tip: Ask our staff what can be seen from our hill. The view stretches all the way to Čakovec in neighboring Croatia.

Wine Bistro and Local Flavors

The afternoon is perfect for visiting our wine bistro, where the sommelier will introduce you to selected local wines. These are accompanied by Prlekija cold cuts, homemade cheeses, and cured meat delicacies that perfectly complement every sip.

If your path takes you elsewhere, we are happy to recommend local restaurateurs and winemakers. Jeruzalem and its surroundings are full of stories that you will taste with every bite.

An Evening with a View

As the sun sets behind the hills and the sky glows in golden hues, take a seat on our terrace and enjoy a dinner prepared by our resident chef. Seasonal dishes, homemade ingredients, and Prlekija inspiration create an unforgettable end to the day.

A Night Under the Stars

When night falls, treat yourself to one last experience: stargazing. Far from the hustle and bustle of the city, by the pool or on a lounger, discover the starry sky above the vineyards. It is a peace you won’t find anywhere else.
