Jeruzalem

THE ESSENCE OF PRLEKIJA

Jeruzalem

Jeruzalem is a settlement in the Municipality of Ljutomer. It is a dispersed viticultural settlement centered on the ridge around the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, dating back to 1652, which lies in the Ljutomer-Ormož Hills on the watershed between the Drava and Mura rivers. It is located 7 km from Ljutomer, with which it is connected by a wine road, and lies at an altitude of 341 m.

SINCE 1821

The history of the Jerusalem hills intertwines Roman roots, the legend of the French exclamation “C’est si bon!” (Šipon), and the legacy of the Fürst wine-growing family, who built their historic wine temple on the site of today’s Sibon Wine & Spa Resort.

LANDSCAPE

Jeruzalem is one of the most important tourist destinations. Next to the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, there used to stand Fischerauer Manor, which burned down in 1907. Now, there is a mansion here that houses a guest house with a 300-year-old vaulted cellar, next to which is a rich arboretum with exotic plants, trees, shrubs, and perennials.
